I wouldn’t normally give negative feedback as I have never felt it necessary as the surgery have been amazing in my 7 years using that practice however my recent dealings with one of the receptionists left me feeling rather annoyed, especially feeling so unwell. I’ve spent 2 weeks on several medications for chest infections/asthma and a long stay in A&E which I totally understand how exceptionally busy the nhs are at present. When I felt more unwell on Thursday, I rang early to get a phone appt which was fine. I was late picking the phone up and missed the call so got straight back on and waited in the queue to apologise and was told they would let the doctor know and I’d get another call which I did shortly after. An appt was made for 4pm that day. All that was fine but I then got a rather blunt call to tell me I’d missed my phone appt and that the doctor was trying to contact me. I went on to explain that I had in fact spoken to the doctor and an appt had been made for me at 4pm. At 2.30pm I received another call from the same receptionist asking where I was and why I’d missed my appt saying everyone was looking for me! I tried explaining the same as earlier but she was adamant she had made the appt for me and that I had failed to turn up. She was rather brisk with me to be fair, my phone was on loud speaker and my partner thought the same. Again I explained I had an appt at 4pm made by Dr Bell at my phone consultation in the morning, 2.30 was never mentioned as I was staying at my partners and had to travel to get there for 4pm. I was feeling particularly unwell and was rather shocked as I’ve always had a good relationship with the staff but she is new to me, I hadn’t met her before. It made me feel rather uncomfortable as I’m not in the habit of missing appts without letting the surgery know. I appreciate it’s a busy time of the year and can be frustrating trying to cater for everyone but I really did/do feel quite unwell right now and feel that first contact with patients should be a pleasant one and patients should be given some respect, especially when they are unwell. All that said, the surgery have fantastic doctors and nurses and this is the first time I’ve ever felt uncomfortable with reception staff. — j.mi…@hotmail.comreveal
