I agree with the inspection results but have since carried out the following improvements

- The establishment has been thoroughly cleaned and procedures are in place to ensure that cleanliness is maintained.

- There is now a new manager and/or new staff.

- The staff have been trained/re-trained/given instruction/are under revised supervisory arrangements.

At the time of this inspection, I was also Interim Manager at a sister home in St Ives. I was not based at Karenza on a daily basis but split my time between the two homes. Our previous kitchen supervisor is no longer with us, who had a Food Hygiene Level 3 cert. A recent kitchen assistant appointment has resulted in their dismissal recently, for failure to meet expected standards of the role during their probationary period, which I had highlighted and discussed with them. In the interim, we have covered the kitchen with internal staff that are more experienced, and who work to a very high standard in the kitchen. As Manager, I have also completed many shifts in the kitchen, to ensure these are maintained. On the day of inspection, a large amount of paperwork was in my office as I had been in the process of removing last years to file in my office. It was therefore not available to the inspector. The day of the inspection was certainly not typical of the kitchen, and the inspector commented on how clean the kitchen was on that day. All identified actions have now been rectified or are in the process of being completed within one week from today (31/1/24).
